Subject taken from St John V, 2-8; one of eight paintings commissioned from Murillo for the Hospital de San Jorge, Seville, illustrating works of mercy. Purchased for £8,000 given to the Art Fund by the Executors of the late Graham Robertson and presented to the National Gallery.
