Description:
David Garrick as Lord Chalkstone, Ellis Aicken as Bowman and Astley Bransby as Aesop in the dramatic satire 'Lethe'. Lethe was written by David Garrick and first performed at Drury Lane in 1740. The painting depicts the point in the play when Aesop exclaims 'Does your Lordship propose a wager as a proof of the goodness of your head?'.
