Commissioned by John Pinney for Georgian House; by descent.
Description:
The painting is not a documentary record but an imposing picturesque souvenir of St Kitts and Nevis in the West Indies. It depicts the characteristic features of the area as the original owner of the painting, John Pinney, wished to remember it and to show to friends. The day to day grind of work on the plantations is kept out of sight. The foreground with English oaks, cattle and country people might easily depict an English pastoral scene.
