Edward Bawden (1903 - 1989)

Chelmsford Museum and the Essex Regiment Museum

Bawden lived from 1932 in Great Bardfield, Essex. The artist creates a somewhat disquieting atmosphere through the prominence given to the gnarled tree trunk in the centre, dominating & dividing what would otherwise be a tranquil rural scene.
