Description:
The drawing is a preliminary study for a painting held in Atlanta, Georgia. The sheet varies in several respects from the picture, the figures of Isaac and the angel being notably altered. The foreshortened angel casts a dramatic shadow over the impending sacrifice - a baroque element at odds with the rather more subdued tone of the finished picture.
