One of only two near-complete Nottingham alabaster altarpieces in the UK, this is dominated by a central panel depicting The Holy Trinity. To either side are scenes from the Passion - the Betrayal and Flagellation on the left and the Entombment and Resurrection on the right. Each panel is topped with a pierced canopy. Missing, however, are the two flanking saints usually included in such works of the late fifteenth century. The altarpiece has suffered some damage and restoration, and although the wooden framework is contemporary, it is not the original. In conservation tests, traces of the original painting and gilding were discovered; and the altarpiece was cleaned and restored after its acquisition by the museum in 1983.
