Description:
Folding pricket candlestick. Made of gilded copper and decorated with champleve enamels in white, red and blue, it has three legs, terminating with zoomorphic heads whish rotate on the rivet attaching them to the stem. Pricket means with the point rising from the drip-pan to pierce the base of the candle and hold it in place. Excavated at Grove Priory, a convent till 1289 and then the residence of Margaret of Woodstock, daughter of Edward I, whose armorial devices are thought to be those on the candlestick.
