George II centrepiece 'machine' or 'surtout compleat', comprising a central tureen (h 28.5) with detachable branches for 4 candlesticks, 6 casters (2 large, 4 smaller), 4 glass, silver mounted cruets and 4 small dishes.

Provenance

Made for Cholmley Turner of Kirkleatham MP for York, his arms are engraved on the dishes and his crest on the detachable pieces; by descent through his wife's family the Marwoods of Busby Hall; Sotheby's 1963.
