This work was originally catalogued as the Story of the Jew who stole and fried the Host and now thought to be a forgery. This drawing was donated by Max Rosenheim who presented over 170 works to the British Museum through the Art Fund between 1904 and 1911 including the first work to have entered the nation's collections through the Art Fund, Daniel Quare's Repeating watch. Max Rosenheim was a financier and part of the Executive Committee of the Art Fund from its inauguration. He was a well known collector of engravings and medals and also Trustee of the British Museum.
