Cardiff was one of eight museums to win a share of £75,000 to buy their selected object thanks to Art Fund Collect, an initiative in collaboration with the Crafts Council aimed at championing contemporary craft and increasing its presence in UK collections. This organic, sculptural piece by the Japanese artist Yede, is made from nickel-silver and bronze strips, painstakingly intertwined and hammered into place. Yede created this work spontaneously. Because it resembles the licking of flames, he chose the title Inferno after the making process.
