Scott Myles (born 1975)

Gallery of Modern Art

1) 2009; 2) 2010

Myles is an essential part of the artistic story of Glasgow and his work is a combination of Conceptual artistic technique with humour and playfulness. 1) STABILA looks like an abstract arrangement of coloured rectangles from a distance. However the images depict the bruised arms and torso of a man taken from Glasgow police records of an assault using a Stabila-manufactured spirit level. 2) The Past ... is an enlargement of three Elba folders that the artist uses day-to-day for archive purposes. It is a playful conceptual trick in the style of the American Pop Artists working in the 1960s although Myles's subject is more mundane. This is the first work by Myles to be acquired for the Glasgow collection.
