Rembrandt etched a number of small plates of beggars which are similar in subject matter and format to the series Les Gueux published in 1622 by Jacques Callot. These two etchings, date from about the time the artist settled in Amsterdam, and extend the number of Rembrandt's genre prints in the Hunterian. They form part of a bequest of four works to be distributed to museums in the UK through the Art Fund.
