Langlands & Bell (born 1955/1959)

Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

1990

This is one of a group of sculptures made during 1990 and 1991 in the run up to the first Gulf War. The circular emblem of the United Nations Organisation has been compressed and distorted. The emblem is under pressure in a way that the organisation's hopes to prevent conflict were under pressure and eventually failed in this period. This work links directly to the Herbert's priority of collecting works which deal with themes of conflict, peace and reconciliation.
