Edward Bawden donated the contents of his studio to the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery during his lifetime, making the Edward Bawden Archive the largest single collection of Edward Bawden's work. This work is of particular significance for three reasons. Firstly it is Bawden's 'first book' in his long, successful career of book design. Secondly, it records the beginnings of Bawden's lifelong fascination with Kew Gardens. Thirdly, it represents an early example of Bawden's style showing the early influences of Aubrey Beardsley and Claude Lovat Fraser. This work will be on display in the Bawden Gallery following the redevelopment of the art gallery.
