The Martin Harrison Collection of Buckley Pottery

Various

1700-1940

This collection consists of around 302 vessels and 102 tiles. It represents 40 years of systematic collecting by an expert in the study of Buckley pottery. Martin built up his collection by buying from local sources, auctions, and shops, looking for pieces which span the range of Buckley ware in terms of shape, decoration and marks. Buckley is a small town in Flintshire, which was a centre of pottery production from medieval times until the 1940s. Around 40 potteries operated at any one time. The Buckley Pottery industry is key to the history of Flintshire and to the history of ceramics as a whole. This collection enhances the museum's existing Buckley pottery collection.
