This work explores a classical theme; mans relationship to the created world. In the centre of the work two male figures gesture into a ‘harmonious classical glade' surrounded by statuesque and reclining figures. This figure has the feeling of being liberated and there is a sense of awakening, almost resurrection. In the foreground a stark, dead, bare tree form emerges from the earth. The colour palette is limited to browns and greens creating a muted, ambiguous mood within the work and suggesting that the world is not in harmony after all. The work is emotionally charged and possibly reflects on Vaughan's inner struggles and longing for freedom.
