A set of 10 Paris porcelain plates painted with various scenes including five with Newstead subjects. Maria Wildman (later Lady Gardiner) was the sister of Colonel Thomas Wildman, who purchased Newstead Abbey from his friend Lord Byron in 1818 and in whose possession the estate remained until his death in 1859. One plate is painted with a view of the brick maker's cottage at Newstead, which is the only visual record known to survive. The plates painted with views relating to Colonel Wildman's military career also have particular significance for Newstead Abbey. Wildman and his brothers John and Edward served in the Peninsular War and were present at the Battle of Waterloo.
