Description:
The picture shows His Majesty's Deerkeepers standing round an old buck that has just been shot. Windsor Castle can be seen in the distance. The close observation of nature which characterises Lewis's work as a Pre-Raphaelite is hown in this picture by the painting of the horse's nostrils, which are distended at the scent of blood from the dead buck.
