2009

'Buried' is an 8 minute film about landscape and memory, about the difficulties of addressing painful, violent events in a post-conflict situation. The viewer is taken on a disturbing journey into a dark forest. As tension mounts Doherty plays with our expectations, revealing debris in the forest- innocent litter or forensic evidence? Doherty uses this dark tableau to make a poetic comment on specific events and on the universal ugly legacy of war. This work has been jointly acquired by the Imperial War Museum and Wolverhampton Art Gallery. This film adds a contemporary element both to the IWM's collection of art relating to the Northern Ireland conflict and Wolverhampton's themed collection on 'the troubles' in Northern Ireland.
