Margaret Green (1925 - 2003)

Museum of Hartlepool

1957

Margaret Green is one of Hartlepool's most significant artists and this painting is an outstanding example of her work. It is also quite typical in that it takes a regional beach, in holiday mode, as its scene. It depicts Seaton Carew beach with the Staincliff Hotel and the Green clearly visible in the background. The painting is a similar view to the painting ‘Seaton Carew Beach', also by Margaret Green, which is already in the collection of Hartlepool Museums and Heritage Service. Similar beach huts can be seen in both pictures; however the tone and the colours in the pictures are quite different.
