William Rothenstein was a champion of August Rodin. Rothenstein saw the first version of Rodin's famous 'The Kiss' on show at the 1898 Salon in Paris and was instrumental in commissioning a larger version for his friend EP Warren for Lewes House in Sussex. This version of the sculpture was later purchased by Tate with the help of an Art Fund grant in 1953.
