This work is a globular vessel made of faience, the quintessentially Egyptian glazed material, decorated with scenes of pygmies hunting ducks in the marshes. This depiction of the Nile landscape evokes the primeval waters from which life first emerged in Egyptian mythology, and the cheerful pygmies hunting ducks echo the constant struggle the gods and pharaohs must wage against the forces of chaos. Bolton Museum's Egyptian collection is one of the most comprehensive in Britain, formed as a result of over 120 years' support of British excavations in Egypt.
