Sir Jacob Epstein (1880 - 1959)

Epping Forest District Museum

circa 1945

This painting is a vibrant winter view of Epping forest and shows the artist's rich use of colour. The landscapes of the Epping Forest district have acted as a major source of inspiration to a number of important artists in the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum has developed an important collection of works by many of these artists and this landscape is the first work by Epstein to enter the collection.
