Frank Auerbach (born 1931)

John Creasey Museum

1994

This print is full of animation and feeling which is typical of Auerbach's work where his eye is always searching to capture the essence of the person. The etching is also interesting as it incorporates two techniques (etching and aquatint) and printing from two plates gives the image a unique three dimensional effect. John Creasey Museum is expanding its collection of contemporary prints and this work fits in nicely with important works by major printmakers like David Hockney, Paula Rego and Eduardo Paolozzi. This is the first work by Auerbach acquired by the museum.
