Gwyn Hanssen Pigott (born 1935)

School of Art Gallery and Museum

2008

This work is characteristic of Piggott's pale celadon type glazes. The three bottles offer a harmonious composition based on simple minimal forms but the arrangement emanates a stately presence. Piggott began to develop her most distinctive approach to ceramics in the 1980s and has pioneered the concept of grouping forms to create still life arrangements. Piggott worked with Ray Finch, Bernard Leach and Cardew in the 1960s and this piece makes a beautiful link to Aberystwyth's core collection of early studio potters.
