Annie Turner (born 1958)

National Museum Cardiff

2006

This work is a poetic evocation of the Deben estuary in Suffolk. The form is derived from the cage-like structures used as moorings weighted to the riverbed. The pitted surface of the glaze hints at the corrosive effects of time, weather and flowing water. The form itself, gently distorted during extensive firing at high temperature, also suggests the presence of water passing round and through the object. This work joins the museum's collection of contemporary craft which includes influential and interesting makers from outside Wales as well as Welsh makers.
