Vincent Ysart (1909 - 1971)

Perth Museum and Art Gallery

circa 1950

Vincent was the son of Salvador Ysart who moved to Perth from Spain with his family and had a large impact on the production of art glass in Scotland with the inception of Monart glass and later Vasart glass both based in Perth. The Ysart's established a tradition of art glass in Scotland, which had not existed before. Their creations inspired future generations of Scottish art glass as well as individual makers. This piece with its unique filigree cane decoration was made as a birthday gift for the artist's wife. The style of the vase reflects the influence of Vincent Ysart's Spanish roots. The design of this particular piece is evocative of native painter Joan Miro in terms of the organic forms and colour.
