Description:
A suite of 9 lithographs from the series 'Jane Eyre' loosely based on Charlotte Bronte’s novel Jane Eyre. The series mostly focuses on Jane Eyre and Bertha Rochester who have fascinated Rego for years. The works capture the indomitable spirit of both women as well as that of the novel’s deeper meanings, without being slavishly illustrative of its key passages. Cartwright Hall has a commitment to exploring cultural confluences and Rego’s work does this in a particularly compelling and intelligent manner. She takes what appears to be a quintessentially English novel and universalises it.
