Description:
This gun was engraved to commemorate the resistance of an invasion by William of Orange at Spithead in 1688 led by the 1st Baron of Dartmouth but never presented and the recipient is now unknown. It is an excellent example of late 17th century English quality and style, built around a fine quality Turkish barrel and it is the earliest known English gun with dated silver mounts. Henry Crisp was a prominent London gunmaker who worked within the Tower of London, where this gun is likely to have been made.
