Description:
This work is a large-scale free machined embroidery. It demonstrates Kettle's bravura stitching technique, translating an impressionistic watercolour drawing into stitch, literally painting with machine needle and thread. The image is Kettle's reinterpretation of an Ethiopian cartoon on gesso seen at the Hali textile fair in Halifax. This work won first prize at the PFAFF Art Embroidery Challenge 2005, an international competition for embroidered art created entirely on a sewing machine.
