Description:
A collection of 14 carved ivories including 4 depicting elephants, 2 squirrels, and others depicting conch sellers, mother and child, fisherman with cormorant, woman with parasol, mat weavers, mask maker, rat and a poodle. Lesley Lewis was one of the first four students to be accepted as an undergraduate to study the history of art at the Courtauld Institute when it opened in 1932. She retained a lifelong interest in the subject.
