Description:
This work is carved with repeating geometric patterns made in a flat, square shape, with the regularity of the patterning mirroring the grid-like layout of terraced streets. It relates to the artist’s early childhood in Manchester, before her family moved to Blackburn, and demonstrates the impact of the urban landscape on her development as an artist. The work reflects Cassell's interest in contemporary and historic architectural styles, referencing both the geometric patterning of Islamic architecture and the rows of terraced housing that characterise the North West landscape.
