3 December 2010Ulster Museum hosts Richard Long Exhibition
Long is a major figure in international and British art since the late 1960s. The exhibition explores his ongoing concern with landscape and the natural environment and includes a new large floor-based sculpture, entitled ‘Cornish Slate Ellipse’, comprising cut slate pieces arranged in an oval shape. Kim Mawhinney, Head of Art for National Museums Northern Ireland, said “This new exhibition offers a fresh opportunity to connect the Ulster Museum with a wider audience, particularly young people – a key objective of the Artist Rooms exhibition tour. We are delighted to participate as one of the venues for this national tour of modern art, made possible through one of the largest and most imaginative gifts of art ever made to museums in the UK.” Andrew Macdonald, Deputy Director of the Art Fund said: “ARTIST ROOMS is all about taking this outstanding collection of contemporary art to museums and their visitors right across the UK. We are thrilled that in the year that the Ulster Museum was awarded the prestigious Art Fund Prize - the UK's largest single arts prize - given in recognition of its excellent, imaginative and innovative redevelopment, the museum is also taking part in this very special tour.”
