The Armitt Collection celebrates over 2,000 years of Lake District history. The museum displays artefacts, historic photographs and renowned works of art by the area’s former inhabitants, such as Harriet Martineau, Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin and Kurt Schwitters. Explore Ambleside's story from pre-history and the Romans to the advent of tourism. The reference library contains more than 11,000 books.
