Director of Development – Maternity Cover (12 months)
The Art Fund gives grants to help museums and galleries all across the UK to buy, show and share great art so that it can be experienced and enjoyed by everyone. We have done this for over 100 years – not through state funding, but by mobilising the passions and resources of art lovers throughout the UK. Their contributions, large and small, provide our income.
In April 2011 we announced our commitment to do more for museums and galleries – increasing the amount we give away by 50% by 2014. At the same time we launched the National Art Pass which has since brought 15% growth in our membership to over 90,000 people. Alongside this we have ambitious plans to increase support from major donors, companies, legacies and volunteers. This maternity cover position offers a rare opportunity to contribute to an organization with considerable energy and appetite for growth, building on the structures and strategies implemented over the last two years.
The Director of Development leads a team of 8 and plays a major role in the strategic direction of the organization as a member of the Senior Management Team. The successful candidate will have a proven track record as a fundraiser, especially in the area of major gifts and possibly in the arts. As a practised senior manager they will be experienced in working across departments notably marketing, membership and programmes. They will also be adept at handling relationships with board members and volunteers.

Editor, Art Quarterly
Central London, c £40,000
The Art Fund is the fundraising charity helping museums and galleries across the UK to buy and show great works of art, for the enjoyment of everyone. Our programme ranges from major fundraising appeals to ensure masterpieces stay on public display in the UK to the annual Art Fund Prize for museums and galleries and the sponsorship of ARTISTS ROOMS on tour.
A large element of our funding comes from sales of the National Art Pass and our 90,000 members. In this role you will be the editorial vision and voice behind Art Quarterly, the hugely respected magazine which goes to our members four times a year. Art Quarterly covers the visual arts across the UK while providing an opportunity for the Art Fund to engage and communicate with our members and help them make the most of their National Art Pass. This is a unique opportunity to edit one of the UK’s most important visual arts magazines at an exciting time following the successful launch of the National Art Pass and a 15% increase in membership in the last year.
You will devise and implement a dynamic and consistent editorial vision for the magazine that grows the profile and appreciation of the magazine, ensuring it is an invaluable benefit for Art Fund members. As well as commissioning editorial you will edit and oversee the publishing and printing of the magazine, liaising with designers and managing staff undertaking picture research, compiling listings and selling advertising. As a key member of the Art Fund Communications team, you will actively seek opportunities to contribute to all editorial and integrate content across digital and print and be a key advocate for the organisation.
