Overview
The collections at this Grade I-listed building include portraits by George Romney and Daniel Gardner, watercolours and drawings by John Ruskin, and furniture by Gillows of Lancaster.
There are changing exhibitions drawn from a permanent collection of British mid-20th-century fine and decorative art, including works by the German-born Kurt Schwitters, who spent his final years in the Lake District. The gallery has an innovative programme of educational activities, lectures and events.
