A magnificent example of Art Deco style, Eltham Palace was built by textile magnates Stephen and Virginia Courtauld next to the remains of a medieval royal palace that was Henry VIII’s childhood home. Set amid 19 acres of gardens – including a sunken rose garden and medieval bridge – and surrounded by a moat, it is considered a masterpiece of 20th-century design and contains many recreated interiors, including a dining room with pink leather upholstered chairs and black and silver doors portraying animals from London Zoo.
