The Gallery is devoted to the life and work of Sir Stanley Spencer, and opened in 1962, three years after his death. It stands as a lasting memorial to the man who became synonymous with the village of Cookham. The permanent collection contains examples of his paintings in various fields, including religious work and portraits, together with a fine collection of drawings, letters and memorabilia. Major works on show are The Last Supper and the unfinished Christ Preaching at Cookham Regatta. Two exhibitions are mounted annually, augmented with loans from other galleries and private owners.
