Built 1759-65, Kedleston Hall is a magnificent Georgian house set in 800 acres of classical landscape. The building was initially the work of Matthew Brettingham, followed by James Paine, and later Robert Adam, whose interiors are considered some of the best in England. The state rooms are on a grand scale and have particularly good collections of paintings and original furniture. A remarkable assembly of furniture and artefacts collected by Lord Curzon when he was Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905 is housed in the Eastern Museum.
